Welcome to Moving Adventures

The adventures start here!

  • Moving Adventures is a community organisation offering creative movement & dance workshops - as well as dance, theatre & storytelling shows - for all ages and abilities, in the south-west of England.

  • We believe movement is a powerful tool for self-discovery, building connections, and improving well-being. Through dance, physical theatre, stories and play, we create safe spaces for people of all backgrounds to explore their creativity, and to connect with their embodied emotional lives, as well as relevant current issues.

  • The core team brings together decades of combined experience in creative movement workshops and participatory performance.

Asher Levin

Asher studied Dance, Drama & Theatre Arts at the Uni. of Birmingham, & Physical Theatre at Ecole International du Theatre, Jacques Lecoq, Paris.

Asher is a qualified Primary School teacher. He generally prefers to work with children in creative movement, dance and theatre projects than in the classroom. In his earlier adult life he worked as a full-time actor, creating and performing physical theatre pieces for children and families, notably with Travelling Light Theatre company. Recently he has performed theatre pieces and led workshops in schools. He has co-led family dance sessions over the past 5 years.

Asher has practised Contact Improvisation dance for 30 years, an improvised community-based form of partner dance, (similar to partnering in Contemporary Dance) he’s been teaching internationally since 2008

His interest in Moving Adventures is to enable performing arts, particularly movement and dance to be more accessible to the local community, in ways that promote well-being; healthy, rich social interactions and sense of community; and forms of self-expression and development to enhance lives.

He lives in Dartington and loves being and interacting with the land and elements.

Sky Chapman

I bring to Moving Adventures strong elements from my experience over many decades. Yes, I own being an Elder, with a youthful spirit.

FIrstly, Movement practices, particularly improvised dance in the community - enabling us to trust both the joy of sharing dance together and to meet others in creative cooperation and play. Secondly, I am passionate about theatre and storytelling as a way of exploring and celebrating who we are, where we come from and what might be. Finally, I have had a strong involvement in community Men's groups - coming together to support each other in owning, sharing and entrusting much more of our lives. It is vital that community groups meet in cross-generational, creative, embodied ways, beyond just talking. Moving Adventures adresses all these elements.

This work helps overcome feelings of isolation and distrust, so leading to the possibility of builiding healthier relationships and a happier engaged life. I'm glad to be a part of it.

Emma Piercey-Fisher

Is a community dance practitioner (Soul Motion). She's worked with children in different capacities for most of her adult life from being a volunteer at her local Brownies group to a teaching assistant at a primary school; assisting at family folk festivals in the children’s tent, to running dance movement sessions with children with autism. She's recently been running conscious dance sessions for mums and babies. She has two young boys (6 & 3) who love to dance. Emma has a special interest in supporting mothers and families. She also runs creative journaling sessions for mothers. She co-runs a committed conscious dance group for women. She's glad to be a part of the Moving Adventures project, helping bring dance, creative movement, physical and mental well-being to more of the community in accessible ways.
